Hilga and I started RVing when we got bored with more traditional vacations. That was about ten years ago. It had been a dream of ours that when we reached retirement we would travel the country in an RV. We have always loved hitting the road in any kind of vehicle, and thought an RV would be awesome because you would always have a clean bathroom, kitchen, and bed. You basically could have every thing you needed with you at all times.
We really did not care so much about fuel costs because the other vacations we took cost the same, if not more expensive than our RV trips. So, one year we finally decided, “let’s give it a try!” We had been looking at RV’s for years and dreaming about traveling in one – that was 23 years ago. So we rented our first Class A gas RV and took it on a 3500 mile trip to visit family, and other spots we had not been to. We were out almost three weeks and fell in love with the thing! It was every thing we had dreamed it would be! I was fascinated how all the RV systems worked so well, how comfortable it was, and easy to drive. I came home after the trip and said, “if we don’t have one of these in five years, let’s sell the house.”
Well, Hilga said, “hold on there big fella!” You want to sell our dream home?” Well, let me tell you, after six more trips in even bigger and better RV’s, we had the house sold and had our own RV, and we now live in it full time. And by the way, the five years took seven. But that’s okay. A dream is a dream until spoken words create reality! We are not retirement age and we wanted to get out on the road while we were still young, and healthy enough to enjoy every thing that you can do when you travel the country. Most of the folks we meet are so decrepit that they really can’t enjoy the time as well as if they had started twenty years earlier.

So, how can you enjoy the full time RV living lifestyle sooner? There are many ways to supplement income while living your RV dream. There is an option called workamping that allows you to trade hours for your RV site, as well as make additional income. Workers are always needed for maintenance, office registration, site escort, security, cooking, retail sales, etc at RV parks and campgrounds across the country. Some parks are so large they have 450 seasonal workers and 175 year round folks. It’s a great arrangement. That is how Hilga and I get our site paid while having something to do in the areas we want to visit.
Another good option for making money while enjoying the RV lifestyle is to have your own business: something you can do any where and it does not involve product inventory, sales, etc. There are companies that need folks for online teaching, consultation, and customer service. All you need is a phone line and a computer. You can have a home office on wheels and claim a tax deduction. The Internet is exploding with ways to derive income. You just have to sort out the scams and find the gems.
Imagine waking up to the call of nature, checking out the different view in the bathroom window, putting on that pot of coffee and thinking about where you want to go next. ”Where do you want to go next summer” is the question Hilga and I face right now – ah, so many possibilities! We are not sure yet, but once we are, we’ll be ready to hit the road and venture off to a new locale. I think it’s time to head back to the beach for a few months. We’re missing the sand between our toes! We also need a supply of liquid grapes so you know what that means. Off the Napa Valley!
We are thankful to the many friends along the way that have shared their experiences with us so we could learn from their mistakes, and not duplicate the same errors. RVers are more than willing to share helpful advice if you ask them for it. Some will just come right out and tell you whether you want to hear it or not. But that’s okay. We are all a friendly bunch and there are very few lemon trees out there. It’s a great life! Hilga and I hope to see you out there someday, if you are not part timers already. Maybe you will be able to tell us that you saw Franz and Hilga on an article site, and you got inspired to just get out there! Let’s hope!
Blessings, Franz and Hilga

About the Author:
Franz is passionate about optimal nutrition as these days people are making too many poor food choices. The grocery stores are loaded with dead food: over processed and loaded with preservatives. The problem is these chemicals are leading to so many diseases, and people are blinded to the fact that the main reason for growing cancer concerns is it is directly related to what you put in your mouth!
Hilga and I travel the country in our RV as full timer RVers. We share healthy lifestyle choices to those who want to listen. Let me tell you it’s a tough battle! I also have many articles on StreetArticles under author name HanznFranz. Ya! Check zem out!
