Look up RV dealers in Google and you will see over 800,000 entries. Just in my area, there were 10 listed within a 50-mile radius! Determining a good dealer is not always easy. But there are some things you can do to find the best.
Check Out the RV Dealer’s Website
The first thing you want to do is look at their website. It should be well maintained and frequently updated. Look for the following:
Pictures of current new and used RVs
Descriptions that include accessories
Price (no price is a big red flag)
A dealer that does not have this information may not be the best choice. The more information they are willing to give upfront, the better. No need to waste your time traveling to motor home dealers only to find out when you get there the price is wrong or it is not in good shape.
Look for a Blog
A dealer that maintains a blog is a good sign. They are willing to take the time and effort to keep their customers informed. You can tell they are in it more than just the “Big Sell.” They want their customers to be happy with their choices and stay informed of current RV uses.
Some websites will have the blog listed as a blog and others will have it listed under the “About Us” section. When checking out blog content check the following:
• The blog should be updated on a regular basis. At minimum, it should be updated once a week.
• It needs to have a variety of categories including:
o About the Dealer
o Recreational Vehicle Information
o Recreational Vehicle News
o Recreational Vehicle Products
o Class A RVs
o Class B RVs
o Class C RVs
o Fifth Wheels
o Toy Haulers
o Travel Trailers
• The blog should be informational. It should be more than promoting motor homes in stock. It should give helpful information on a wide range of RV topics.
Check for Parts and Service
A good RV dealer will have information on parts and service. You should not be left hanging if something goes wrong. If they cannot repair it themselves, then they should be able to give you information on where to go to find repairs.
Avoiding Con Artists
These tips will help you avoid getting conned. The RV industry is no different from any other. Where there is money to be made, you can be sure criminals will follow. You can protect yourself from cons by going to a reputable RV dealer.
