Indoor RV Boat and Car Storage – Worth the Price!

Let’s keep this real simple.

We all would like to store our valuable vehicles in our own garage, or worse case, in our back yards protected from strangers.  Due to the size of most of our garages and restrictions by the city or homeowner associations, this is often not possible. If you cannot store your extra vehicles at your own home, you need to decide where to keep it.  

First, set what is most important to you:

Location – Proximity to your home
Accessibility – do you need 24/7 access
Cleanliness
Security
Out of sight of prying eyes
Out of reach of pests and rodents
Budget
Resale value

If you have a rare car, there is no way you will park it anywhere that will hurt its value.  If you have a new RV or boat, you do not want it ruined by the elements, people, or pests.  You can store indoors or outdoors but let’s face it, choosing outdoor storage is just pennywise and pound foolish if you have a valuable vehicle.

Indoor storage will cost you nearly double parking it outside. However, this is just the monthly costs.  They money you will save is with:

Replacing tires on your trailer, car, or RV
interior damage from the sun
the cost of cleaning your vehicle  
water damage
the risk of thousands of dollars of damage from rodents
theft
unauthorized use
damage from other’s parking their vehicles next to yours
money lost when reselling your vehicle due to the aging from outside storage.

Do your homework.  Visit the facilities and meet the staff.  Ask about the credentials of the people that own the business, the people that will be moving your vehicle, and what their plans are for the future.

I have seen people discourage indoor storage because the business might only be a short-term usage of vacant property.  Make sure you deal with a company that is dedicated to your satisfaction for years to come.

You have a lot invested in your vehicle. Don’t let the weather, vandals, or pests spoil your fun. And if you decide to store indoors, be sure you like the people behind the walls as much as the facility itself.

A clean and secure indoor facility will maximize the beauty and value of your vehicle. Look for added services such as interior and exterior detailing, electrical hookup and 24-hour pickup/drop-off access. Ask about the security system.  Is the facility and yard protected with alarms, sprinklers, and state-of-the-art security cameras monitoring the entire premise 24/7?  Don’t forget to check out the pickup and drop-off yard.  Not only do you want it in a nice area of town but you want it to be well lit and have plenty room to turn in with nice wide spaces to park in.  Some facilities even have fingerprint controlled gate access.
