It happens to all RVs. You take your nice clean motor home out to Mudstock, Muddy Gras, or even a simple camping trip. What happens? Your nice new RV gets a new odor.
It never fails. You go out on a road trip to enjoy some time in the great outdoors. Then the skunk hits and next thing you know the smell is in everything. If it is not a skunk, then someone falls into some rank mud. Even the accidental water spill can turn your RV into mildew city when you open it up on the next trip.
You can stop the odor by doing a few simple things.
The Power of Baking Soda
We have a toy hauler and we just love to take it to all kinds of events. The only problem is that these are very muddy events. And where’s there is mud there is stink. Over the years, we have tried numerous products to clean up the RV and nothing beats the old standby baking soda.
Whether you have cleaned fish or degreased your hands in the sink, baking soda takes out the smell. Simply put a cup of baking soda in the drain and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then boil some water. Pour the boiling water over the baking soda and your sink smells like new.
The Power of Vinegar
When cleaning up the windows and floors, adding a touch of vinegar to the water solution makes for an effective cleaning solution. Not only does it eliminate germs, it will eradicate smells as well. If you are not fond of the vinegar smell, then just open the windows and doors for a few minutes to release the smell.
Clean Before Closing
The most important thing you can do to keep your RV smelling nice and fresh is to clean it after every use. I know you are tired and want to rest after your long trip. However, storing your RV messy is just asking for trouble.
Clean out the refrigerator, mop the floors, vacuum the furniture and change the sheets. Make sure there is no trash and no dirty clothes in the trailer. Anything left in there may not smell now, but a few weeks closed up can really multiply a smell.
Follow these three tips and each and every time you open your RV, you will open it up to a fresh clean smell. Like your mom always told you, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
