Everyone has heard about the famous Route 66 and for good reason. Taking your fifth wheel down this famous road means seeing the country in a new light. This road is every RVer’s dream come true.
When you think the time has come to make your own path down Route 66, there a few places you just won’t want to miss. The road is best traveled when you have plenty of time and not in a rush. Generally, this means the lazy days of summer.
Before You Hit the Road
Even the most experienced traveler can miss some great destinations if they are not prepared. When it comes to Route 66, there is a lot to see and a lot of things you could miss if not careful. Therefore, the best preparation will start with a Route 66 guide.
Route 66 guides are easily found online. All you need to do is order a roadmap along with a tourist guide. The Internet is a good place to find a guide and it can help you find must-see destinations of your own.
If it is possible, take your computer with you so you can have access to the Internet while you travel. Then when you stop in a little town, you can look up local Route 66 attractions.
3 Must-See Destinations
Now to the good part of this guide, the places you will want to see along the way. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of things to see on the way. However, here are a few of my favorites.
Sears Tower – Standing at an amazing height of 1,450 feet and an incredible 110 stories, the Sears tower is a must-see. It is located in Chicago and a definite tourist attraction. You can find it just off Route 66 at:
o 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60606
Jesse James Museum – When you hit Missouri, you will want to make a quick detour down I-44 to see the Jesse James Wax Museum. It is more than just a wax museum, this place touts the “true story” behind Jesse James. There is a gift shop and tours. You can find it at:
o I-44 Stanton, Missouri, Exit #230
Grand Canyon – How could you travel down the famous road and not stop at the Grand Canyon? Technically, the road is Route 64 but it is still part of the famous Route 66. The Grand Canyon is a must-see for anyone in America whether they are traveling down Route 66 or not
I sincerely hope this gets you thinking about traveling down the old famous road. Traveling down Route 66 in your fifth wheel is a sight that words cannot explain.
