Looking for used RVs for sale by owner can be tricky business. After all, you never really know who or what you will end up dealing with. Still, you look because we all know that buying by owner is cheaper than purchasing a used RV from a lot. You can do some things to make this easier.
Safe Shopping
Unfortunately, we do not live in the safest world. Not everyone is trustworthy and not everyone is nice. Therefore, you need to practice safe shopping habits to avoid scams and to keep you safe.
Avoiding Scams –
Most scams involve transferring money. Do not send any money to view the motor home. True sellers will not ask for a deposit just to see the RV.
Do not consider motor homes from overseas. No matter how much of a good deal it is, most likely it is fraud.
Never purchase an RV without seeing it first.
Safe Viewing – When you go to check out the RV, take someone with you. This serves two parts.
First, it helps you see the RV more clearly. Your friend can help you see things wrong no matter how much you like it.
Second, there is safety in numbers. The world is full of crazy people and it does not hurt to take someone with you, just to be safe.
CarFax – While you may have heard of this for cars, you may not know it works for RVs as well.
If you are considering buying from an individual, you will have to pay for the CarFax yourself. Still, this is a good choice, since it will give you a complete unbiased history of the RV.
If you go to a consignment lot, you are still buying the RV from an individual but the RV is on a lot. The dealer can provide you with CarFax.
Consignment Lots
Many times people want to sell their RV but do not have the time or the ability to sell it themselves. They go to a consignment lot and allow the RV dealer to sell the RV for them. It works out great because the dealer has the ability to advertise and attract customers from all over, not to mention they have the time to show it to everyone.
When you are looking for used RVs for sale by owner, you don’t have to go to individual houses. An RV dealer that sells used RVs on consignment is easier. They will have multiple styles of motor homes and they have it all in one place.
